If you are interested in this breed or are planning to obtain one in the foreseeable future, you can find a good English Bulldog Pic or several ones and study the dog’s basic physical characteristics. English Bulldogs are renowned for their placid and convivial disposition. They are not vicious or aggressive, although they do look a little formidable. These dogs require specific handling, and they should not be exposed to too high or low temperatures.

The today’s English Bulldog descended from the Old English Bulldog, a molosser-type dog, which was supposed to guard and bait Bulls. Those old dogs were much larger in size, and had more tenacious and ferocious temperament. Needless to say, it took a great deal of determination, prowess, physical strength and aggression on the dog’s side to pin an animal, which is fifteen times larger than the dog itself, to the ground. Some related websites contain English Bulldog Pics, as well as old-time pictures of dogs having physical characteristics similar to those of old butcher dogs.

The exact origin of the English Bulldog is uncertain. Some sources dating back from the 1500s mention the “Mastive” dog, featuring a large and muscular body, wrinkly muzzle, ferocious countenance and very strong clenching jaws. The term “Bandog” also referred to a strong and vicious type of dog. Those dogs varied in size and body formation, and there was no universal breed standard. Those animals were favored for their valor and endurance, and were popular among dog fight fanciers. Although there is no iron-clad proof that the modern English Bulldog descended from those early fighter dogs, old English Bulldog Pics leave little doubt that those old molosser dogs were instrumental in the formation of the today’s Bulldog.

The English Bulldog of today stands 11-14 inches high at the withers, and weighs 52-55 lbs. English Bulldogs have muscular bodies, with strong and short legs, large head, deep and broad chest and characteristic wrinkly muzzle. The lower mandible is undershot. The hindquarters are higher but narrower than the forequarters. The skull is large and blunt, and the ears are rose-shaped and small. The eyes are large and round. For better understanding of the dog’s physical appearance, you can browse for picture galleries and choose a good English Bulldog Pic and study it carefully.
